Congratulations to SFSJC Director Pat Sloan
Patricia Sloan, Foundation Board member, was honored at the National Philanthropy Day luncheon in November. Pat received the Outstanding Volunteer in Philanthropy award at a luncheon sponsored by the Michiana Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. National Philanthropy Day celebrates the work of nonprofit professionals, their boards and volunteers in our community.
Pat received the award for her countless hours supporting the Scholarship Foundation during her 40 years on our Board.
During her tenure with the Foundation, Pat has chaired the Holiday Luncheon, Nominating and Publicity committees and served twice as chairman of our scholarship Awards committee. The Awards committee meets almost weekly over several months to review and prioritize all scholarship applications. The committee then determines which students will receive the 100+ scholarships for the coming year. She has also served twelve terms as secretary of the Governing Board.
Mentoring out students is an important part of the responsibilities our directors take on. Pat has been a mentor to one or two students each year during her time with us. Currently she is mentoring her 64th student. She often establishes lasting relationships with her students that continue beyond their college experience. She has been invited to her students’ graduations and weddings around the country. One of her most memorable experiences was hearing the Dalai Lama speak at her student’s Tulane University graduation.
As you might assume, Pat has also been very active with other organizations in the community. Congratulations, Pat, on a well-deserved honor!
